What is Action Without Borders/Idealist.org?
Idealist.org is a portal for everyone interested in nonprofit organizations and issues, nonprofit careers, and volunteering. Idealist provides numerous services to the global community (almost all of them for free) in an effort to connect people, resources and nonprofits around the world. What is the nonprofit design competition?
This competition seeks to promote excellence in design in the nonprofit sector and to reward and acknowledge those designers who move beyond limitations to create works that are functional and aesthetically powerful while also promoting social impact.

Please note: Winning entrants grant Idealist.org the right to reproduce their work on Idealist, for promotional purposes only. Idealist.org assumes all entries are original and are the works and property of the entrant, with all rights granted therein. Idealist.org is not liable for any copyright infringement on the part of any entrant. Idealist.org reserves the right to recategorize entries and to create or eliminate categories, if appropriate.


Who is eligible to apply?
Any work implemented for a nonprofit that fits in the categories of web, print, or multimedia and was completed between January 1, 2003 and August 31, 2004 can be submitted. Each work MUST be accompanied by its client's information, including the organization's name and mission, a copy of the organization's tax exempt certification or its latest newsletter or brochure, and contact information for a person from the organization.


Are designers from outside the US eligible to apply?
The competition is open to designers from around the world. There is no fee to apply outside the US.


How to do I apply?
Download the pdf entry form and complete it by typing or printing the required information in English. Please keep the form legible. Forms we cannot read will be disqualified. You must fill out this form for each submission you enter in the competition.


What does it cost to apply?
There is a $25 entry fee (if you are located in the U.S) payable to Action Without Borders for each piece of work submitted.


Is the fee refundable?
No.


What information should I include with my application?
Only submit actual work. Please include the following with your work: The completed master entry form and two copies of the completed form. A digital image of each work submitted (gif or jpg format, 72 dpi, 300 x 375 pixels) on Zip-disk or CDROM to be used in the online gallery if your entry is chosen to be a winning entry. A copy of the organization's tax exempt certification or its latest newsletter or brochure.


Are multiple entries allowed?
Yes. You must fill out the submission form and pay the $25 fee processing fee for each entry.


What kinds of materials can I send in?
You can submit web, print or multimedia materials. Print includes posters, annual reports, logos, stationary, packaging, ads, etc. Multimedia includes games, CD-ROMs, DVDs, motion graphics, video, and computer graphics.


What format should my materials be in?
If your work falls under the print category, submit the actual piece of work even if the work is oversized.

If your work falls under the multimedia category, send in two copies of either Zip disk, CDROM, or DVD, with Mac or PC platform clearly marked. Please include instructions for loading and running the entry.

If your work falls under the website category, send in the full URL of the website with any necessary usernames and passwords if the site is password protected. If your website is not live but is complete, you can send in a CDROM containing the full website.

Idealist.org will notify winners by October 15, 2004.
