Project Description
The winner of a Webby Award and a Batten Award for Innovative Journalism, P.O.V.'s Borders: Environment invites users to explore how individual choices shape our environment, featuring stories from across the country within the framework of three basic elements - earth, air, and water. Since the site's launch in February, P.O.V's Borders: Environment has received over 225,000 page views.
Project Objective
P.O.V's Borders offers a new model for online storytelling-combining experimental, collaborative and engaging activities, while providing educational value in working with social issue content and presenting particular points-of-view in context with reported stories. The series showcases different media, including radio, interactive community spaces, games and video, along with invited guests who write online diaries and answer questions on a range of topics, from garbage to global warming. Rather than presenting a collection of edited, streaming files, P.O.V.'s Borders invites visitors to co-author their experience through dialogue, personal documentation, feedback and other interactive features. With a dual focus on general audience and educational use, the online series facilitates unique strategic and sustained partnerships between content providers and content users.
