Medea Benjamin

Founding Director of Global Exchange and co-founder of CODEPINK: Women for Peace.

Medea Benjamin has been a tireless advocate for social justice for more than 20 years. Described as "one of America's most committed-and most effective-fighters for human rights" by New York Newsday, and called "one of the high profile leaders of the peace movement" by the Los Angeles Times, Benjamin has distinguished herself as an eloquent and energetic figure in the progressive movement. In June of 2005, she was one of 1,000 exemplary women from 140 countries nominated to receive the Nobel Peace Prize collectively, on behalf of the millions of anonymous women who do the essential work of peace worldwide.

Medea is a leading activist in the peace movement and helped bring together the groups forming the coalition United for Peace and Justice. She is also the co-founder of CODEPINK: Women for Peace, a women's group that has been organizing creative actions against the war and occupation of Iraq.

Medea's previous work has focused on improving the labor and environmental practices of US multinational corporations, and the policies of international institutions such as the World Trade Organization, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Medea is a key figure in the anti-sweatshop movement, having spearheaded campaigns against the giant sports shoe company Nike and clothing companies such as the GAP.

Medea was the Green Party candidate for US Senate from California in 2000. She is the author of eight books, including the award-winning book "Don't Be Afraid, Gringo: A Honduran Woman Speaks from the Heart." This spring saw the release of Code Pink's new book, Stop the Next War Now: Effective Responses to Violence and Terrorism, which she co-edited with Jodie Evans.

Patrick Guerriero has devoted his career to public service. The former mayor, state representative, and candidate for lieutenant governor in Massachusetts has served as Executive Director of Log Cabin Republicans and President of the Liberty Education Forum since January 2003.

Guerriero is a leading voice for freedom and fairness in the Republican Party. He has appeared on all the major television networks on programs such as "Hardball with Chris Matthews", "The O'Reilly Factor", "Nightline" and "Inside Politics". Plus he has been featured in many publications including The Washington Post, The New York Times Magazine, and The Los Angeles Times. Guerriero has written op-eds for "The Wall Street Journal", "The Boston Globe" and other newspapers.

Since taking over Log Cabin, Guerriero has doubled its membership and developed new chapters across America. Log Cabin is the leading conservative voice working to defeat the anti-family Federal Marriage Amendment.

In early 2002, Guerriero received national attention when Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift invited him to be her running mate. Guerriero's selection marked the first time in American history that an incumbent governor selected an openly gay politician as a running mate.
