Description:
Dynamic individual with business and/or not-for-profit experience sought to develop and supervise programs and activities designed to attract corporate interest in and financial support for the Business Council for the United Nations (BCUN). BCUN, a division of the United Nations Association of the USA (UNA-USA), is a catalyst for action, understanding and innovative business opportunities between member companies and the United Nations with the goal of facilitating a productive dialogue between the UN and the private sector to build stronger support for the UN among the business community in the United States. The Executive Director:
• Assists in formulating a membership strategy focused on the corporate community that includes an approach to cultivating corporate interest in and support for the UN via UNA-USA’s programs, campaigns, and events.
• Implements and manages the membership strategy.
• Liaises with corporate executives and leaders to promote BCUN membership and develop their interests in UN issues and UNA-USA programs.
• Works in conjunction with the Senior Vice President, President, and Department Heads to tailor programs for corporate engagement on a national basis.
• Drafts outreach letters and proposals to corporate underwriters for support of UNA-USA programs.
• Organizes and coordinates events for BCUN members.
• Communicates regularly and in person with relevant UN Secretariat officials and UN Ambassadors regarding interests of the business community.
• Assists in forming an advisory committee of business leaders to advise UNA-USA on developing an effective approach to cultivating business interest in UNA-USA programs.
• Speaks to corporate leaders, business groups, and other affiliates on UNA-USA activities and related UN affairs.
• Coordinates corporate activities with appropriate UNA-USA departments, chapters and divisions.
• Prepares the annual departmental budget and monitors income and expenses.
Additional Qualifications:
Qualifications for the position include demonstrated success in program building or project development; the ability to reach out to and/or mobilize business and opinion leaders; fundraising experience and the ability to work with business leaders, diplomats and staff. Also included are excellent written, verbal, leadership and interpersonal skills and supervisory and budgeting experience. BA is required; an advanced degree is preferred in business, communications, public relations or marketing. Eight to ten years of relevant professional experience in business, fundraising, grant making or events management is required.
