Description:

UFCW is seeking a Director of Strategic Policy to provide sophisticated analysis of legislative and regulatory proposals as well as policy options for their impact on UFCW members. While the position is primarily federally-oriented, state legislative and regulatory issues and initiatives will also be part of the purview of the incumbent.

Job Description:
• Analyze and develop legislative programs and policy options and;
• Support and evaluate potential success of legislative and regulatory initiatives of concern to UFCW members;
• Meet and negotiate with representatives of agencies and elected officials;
• Collaborate with other local and national organizations in support of UFCW goals;
• Coordinate efforts with UFCW Local Union legislative directors;
• Oversee the development of written materials, including legislative testimony, research reports and policy memoranda for use advocating for legislative or regulatory change by working closely with the Communications and Strategic Research Department;

Job Qualifications
BA or higher with at least 5 years experience in policy and legislative analysis. Masters or law degree preferred. Successful experience in planning and implementing strategic legislative campaigns. Experience with food safety, agriculture policy and related issues a plus. Ability to manage sensitive political situations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Commitment to social justice and the labor movement.
