Fight Crime: Invest in Kids seeks an outstanding writer and experienced fundraiser to join a highly successful and growing child advocacy organization.
The ideal candidate for Senior Associate has a minimum of 3-5 years of fundraising experience, preferably with foundations, grant writing, and major donors. The candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, flexible, creative, and collegial. This position offers exceptional opportunities for professional growth, experience working directly with the President and Vice Presidents, and building relationships with prominent national, regional, and state foundations and donors. About Us
Fight Crime: Invest in Kids is made up of 4,000 police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors, other law enforcement leaders, and violence survivors who believe that the key to preventing crime is investing in programs that help children get the right start in life. It advocates for increased state and federal investments to expand and improve early education, child abuse prevention, after-school programs, and programs for troubled kids. Fight Crime: Invest in Kids is a national, bi-partisan, non-profit headquartered in Washington, DC with 10 state offices around the country.
Responsibilities
The Senior Associate works as an integral part of our four-person Strategic Planning and Development Team to help raise an annual budget ($6.5 million in 2009); write proposals, letters, reports, and other materials; play a lead role in our major donor program with our President; identify and cultivate new sources of support; help develop strategies to engage new constituencies as children’s advocates; evaluate and report on progress and accomplishments; and manage own portfolio of funders and prospects capable of making five, six, and seven figure gifts.
Required Qualifications
• Consistently excellent writing, oral communication, and critical thinking skills.
• Minimum of 3-5 years fundraising experience, preferably with foundations, grant writing, and major donors.
• Strong organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and with staff who are located offsite.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects at once and respond rapidly and flexibly to changing priorities.
• Superior word processing, spreadsheet, and database skills.
• Strong commitment to Fight Crime: Invest in Kids’ mission and strategic vision.
Helpful Experience and Skills
• Non-profit, advocacy, or campaign work.
• Background in public policy, early childhood, and/or youth services.
• Fundraising or related experience in one or more of the following areas: special events, corporations, cause-related marketing, or direct mail.
• Experience with law enforcement and crime victims.
• High comfort level with Macintosh computers, Microsoft Word and Excel, FileMaker Pro, and/or other database software.
