Description

Help socially disadvantaged children, the disabled or the elderly. Learn a lot and give love and care at the same time.

An internship in Nepal is one of the best ways to learn. You will learn about the variety of challenges facing social workers in Nepal.

The situation of the socially disadvantaged in Nepal

Children, women, the disabled and the elderly in Nepal all have one thing in common. They lack the opportunities to make the most of their lives. For all these people Volunteer Society Nepal runs its own special projects and works with partner projects all over Nepal.

Where can I do my Internship?

1. Talent School

Volunteer Society Nepal has an after-school program. It offers children the opportunity to get guidance with their homework, explore their own ideas, create through art, connect through music, dance, and play games. With this internship, you can help these children. You can provide them with after school activities and guide them with their homework.

2. Women Center

Through this internship, you can empower women through education, support and training. Child labour (especially of girls), domestic abuse and sexual exploitation are common. Girls are kept illiterate, making them financially dependent on others. Volunteer Society Nepal has established a women’s centre where women can learn to read, write, learn math and more.

3. Center for Children with Intellectual Disabilities

Volunteer Society Nepal has established a centre for physically and intellectually disabled children. The Center for Children with Intellectual Disabilities is located in Kathmandu and has 20 children at present. These children were previously ignored and neglected. Now they receive special education and physiotherapy services.

4. Elderly Homes

Volunteer Society Nepal works together with two Elderly Homes in Pokhara. The elderly that have been picked up from the streets or neglected are taken in and cared for.

What does an Intern in Social Work do?

You can choose between one or more projects depending on the time that you are here. We ask for a minimum of two weeks for each project. Volunteers spend up to 6 hours a day at the placement, preparing and running different types of activities or care. The general role of the intern will be to learn from the manager and other social workers plus help with what is necessary. This can be in the field of teaching, setting up workshops or other activities. At the disabled centres or elderly home, it can also include help with practical things such as feeding or cooking.

Do I need any specific skills or qualifications for this placement?

With social work placements, you must be currently studying in Social Work or a similar field.
