General Job Description
The Citizens Campaign, a 25-year-old non-partisan, non-profit organization, is seeking someone to join a great team in building a new national public service designed to empower citizen leadership. The Service offers state-of-the-art training in No Blame, Pragmatic Problem Solving and provides facilitation of community-based citizen leadership roles. The goal is to open leadership opportunities to all citizens and help our government find and adopt solutions. This represents an historic change in America’s approach to problem solving and a move forward for a more just society.
The Service has already grown to over 50 Leadership Training Bases providing recruitment and training in major cities spanning every region of the country. There is tremendous potential for expansion. The Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for helping to bring the Service to scale, while realizing our commitment to prioritize minority and economically challenged communities.
Minimum Requirements:
Executive experience with a record of success
Demonstrated commitment to service
Commitment to our goals, requiring 2-year minimum, including in office team management
Ability to pitch program to, and make asks of, corporate and university leaders, large donors and foundations
Beneficial Experience:
Exposure to city politics, government, and campaigns a plus
National experience/contacts helpful to facilitating national expansion a plus
Understanding of the minority experience
Background & Skills:
Background in managing systems (metrics)
Skills in areas of marketing and sales
Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully manage staff, interact with large donors, elected officials and other key stakeholders, and coordinate with partners
Specific Job Description
The Chief Operating Officer will oversee and coordinate all of The Citizens Campaign’s activities, reporting to the Chair of The Citizens Campaign. The job includes:
Implementing and improving The Citizens Campaign’s national expansion plan for the Citizen Service
Managing a dynamic team of paid and volunteer professionals
Taking a lead on new hires required for national expansion
Raising funds to meet the Campaign’s budget including, but not limited to, appeals to foundations and large donors
Developing and implementing a sales and distribution strategy for all Citizens Campaign products (book, course, game, etc.)
Serving as a Citizens Campaign spokesperson
Ensuring the timely and accurate filing of all required financial reports and other non-profit filings
Preparing and ensuring compliance with an annual budget
Position is presently based in Metuchen, New Jersey
