About the Role

AIHA seeks a skilled Manager, Membership who is excited about improving the experience for our members, helping us grow the membership, and is seeking an opportunity to gain experience within an expanding professional organization. This position will work closely with the Director, Membership & Technology to develop and execute strategy for member recruitment, retention, and engagement. This position is responsible for handling the day-to-day activities of the membership department, including membership marketing, recruitment and retention, and membership campaigns resulting in membership growth. They will regularly interact with members and provide excellent customer service, so members feel supported by AIHA and understand the value of their membership. This position will report to Director, Membership & Technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Membership Acquisition

  • Develop and execute strategies to attract new members, including targeted marketing campaigns, outreach efforts, and networking events.
  • Identify potential new member segments and create tailored approaches to appeal to their needs and interests.
  • Collaborate with marketing team to create compelling messaging and materials to promote membership benefits.

Membership Retention

  • Implement initiatives to enhance member retention rates, such as member surveys, feedback mechanisms, and personalized outreach efforts. 
  • Analyze member engagement data and identify trends to proactively address any issues or concerns.  
  • Analyze member benefits and utilization and proactively recommend adjustments or enhancements.

Member Engagement and Communication

  • Facilitate communication channels between members and the association, ensuring that members are informed about member benefits and opportunities.
  • Organize and coordinate new member onboarding and orientation process.   
  • Manage Membership Advisory Group

Database Management and Reporting

  • Working with Member & Customer Relations team, maintain accurate records of membership data.
  • Generate regular reports on membership trends, growth, and engagement levels for internal stakeholders.
  • Utilize data insights to make informed decisions and adjustments to membership strategies, as needed.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with other departments, including marketing, meetings, education, and government relations, to ensure that membership initiatives align with overall organizational goals.
  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including members, volunteers, sponsors, and industry partners to enhance the value proposition of membership.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Be conversationally aware of the budget for Membership and able to manage, in consultation with Director.
  • Assist Director in developing accurate projections, monitor income and expenses, and ensure the maintenance of accurate and detailed records.
  • Work with Finance Group to ensure proper invoicing and crediting.
  • Assist in developing entrepreneurial and innovative approaches to Membership to ensure financial success.
  • Support a strong value proposition for Membership.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise the at least one member from Membership.
  • Maintain a first-class team in coordination with supervisor, which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and all applicable laws.
  • Effectively and thoroughly communicate short and long-term goals as well as shared vision with direct report(s).
  • Develop direct report(s) through personal development plans and cross-functional assignments, delegate projects and responsibilities for achieving goals to staff.
  • Provide action-oriented guidance and support.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10 – 15 years of experience in membership recruitment, retention, and engagement.
  • At least 2 years’ work or volunteer experience in professional membership organization or association.
  • Progressive leadership experience in association or non-profit setting achieving revenue goals, maintaining database integrity, and managing budgets.

Preferred:        

  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience with database management and reporting tools. Experience with Association Anywhere, ACGI, is a plus.

  • Have a proven track record of developing and executing successful membership acquisition and retention strategies.
  • Be highly organized with excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities.

Travel

Travel for this position may be required for our annual conference.

Remote Work & Residency Requirement

This position is eligible to work remotely with the exception of Mondays. From time to time, it may be required to come into the office additional days based on business needs.


Based on our business set-up and to maximize remote work opportunities, AIHA only employs individuals who live in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia. To be considered a candidate must live in, or be willing to relocate to, Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia.

Salary

The pay for this position ranges from $72k - $80k annually based on experience.
