Community Bike Ride Assistant Description

ActiveSGV seeks a highly motivated Community Bike Ride Assistant to support the organization's projects and bike rides in the San Gabriel Valley. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Community Bike Ride Assistant will support ActiveSGV-led bike rides for projects, programs, and services aimed at advancing the organization's mission. Individuals must be organized and prioritize workload; have experience in organizing and coordinating events; be self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively in both independent and team environments; possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact positively and effectively with colleagues, city staff and elected officials, corporate and philanthropic representatives, and community members; be comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-driven work environment; be able to work respectfully with people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; be willing to take public and active transit for work business, and be passionate about the organization's focus area. 

Primary Project Description: Community Bike Rides

ActiveSGV hosts and participates in many community bike and e-bike rides throughout the San Gabriel Valley. These rides may vary in the number of participants, location, distance, weather, and time of day. Additionally, certain documentation must be completed, such as pictures, sign-in sheets, surveys, etc. Those selected will assist in ride coordination, marshaling, and a myriad of other activities to ensure a safe and successful community ride.

Additionally, folks will be able to participate in other projects, such as the GoSGV program, Golden Streets, and other relevant projects that arise. 

Required Qualifications: 

• Proficient in bike handling skills 
• Community ride route planning
• Leading community rides 
• Marshaling community rides
• Basic bike mechanic skills
• Distribute collateral materials at community rides 
• Attend ride-planning meetings 
• Assist with the website, newsletter copy, and social media design for rides
• Create short, people-friendly videos during rides  
• Other duties as assigned

This position will offer in-person work from our offices in El Monte, CA, work from home, and work in the field. ActiveSGV strives to meet the community where they feel comfortable and conducts rides in places and spaces that are convenient for the public. As a result, evening and weekend rides and outreach are involved with this position.

Ideal Qualifications

• League Cycling Instructor 
• Bicycle mechanic 
• Ability to ride a bicycle 
• Passion for grassroots advocacy campaigns and/or community events with youth and underserved populations is preferred.

• Willingness to lead by example by utilizing sustainable forms of transportation, zero-waste practices (e.g., using reusable water bottles), and promoting healthy lifestyles.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, especially public speaking.
• Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), or Vietnamese language skills. 
• An effective team player who can draw out leadership capabilities in others. 

Compensation

This part-time on-call position pays $31.25 per hour semi-monthly. It is non-exempt and not eligible for benefits.
