Join our growing team of talented researchers with offices in Washington D.C., San Francisco, CA, Berlin, Germany, Beijing, China, New Delhi, India, and São Paulo, Brazil.

The ICCT is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a highly committed and self-motivated Associate Researcher to support clean fuels and vehicle policy in Brazil. This position provides an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate at the master’s or PhD level, or an early career professional with 2 to 5 years of experience, to pursue their interests in transportation, the environment, and energy-related topics in Brazil. This role will support ongoing ICCT work in Brazil on soot-free and zero-emission urban bus fleets, urban air pollution, national vehicle emission standards, and other strategies to improve the environmental and energy performance of the transportation fleet in Brazil. Additionally, the position will involve other projects throughout Latin America as needed.

The ideal candidate will bring knowledge of the transportation sector and environmental or energy topics, modeling and/or analytical skills, project management experience, written and spoken fluency in English and Portuguese, strong written and verbal communication, and a demonstrated interest in solving our most pressing global health and environmental challenges. This opportunity is best suited to someone who is self-motivated, resourceful, creative, curious, and willing to work hard and learn fast.

You Will:

  • Collect and analyze vehicle, fuel, and transportation activity data from Brazil and Latin America.
  • Estimate costs and benefits of vehicle emission reduction technologies and policies.
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative analyses of technology and operational strategies to reduce vehicle emissions.
  • Write clear, strong technical reports, policy briefings, and articles to summarize ICCT’s research for key stakeholders.
  • Engage and collaborate effectively with ICCT staff and key partners in Brazil to gather information and communicate relevant findings from ICCT’s research to support policy development.

You Have:

  • A master’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, or related disciplines preferred, or 2–5 years’ comparable work experience.
  • Technical understanding of and interest in air quality, climate change, and transportation emissions, including vehicle and fuel regulations.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and quantitative skills, along with strong written and verbal communication skills and strong emotional intelligence.
  • Strong proficiency with data manipulation and analysis required; modeling and computer programming experience and skills desired.
  • Desired proficiency in at least one of the following analytical tools: R or Python.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision; highly organized, self-directed, and strategic in problem-solving.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English.

Our Benefits

This position will be based in the ICCT's office in the Vila Madalena neighborhood of São Paulo, Brazil, and will have a monthly salary of R$10,700.

To apply, please send a resume, a cover letter indicating your interest, one or two writing samples or relevant technical research publications primarily written by the applicant (in English), and the names and contact information of two professional or academic references (letters not necessary).
