Overview

The Design Studio for Social Intervention (DS4SI)(ds4si.org) partners with communities, artists, and social justice practitioners to imagine, demonstrate, and collectively rebuild places to be more just and vibrant. Situated at the intersections of design thinking and practice, social justice and activism, public art and social practice and civic / popular engagement, DS4SI designs and tests social interventions with and on behalf of marginalized populations, controversies and ways of life. DS4SI is a fiscally sponsored program of TSNE (tsne.org).



Responsibilities

The Communications Lead is responsible for working with the DS4SI Team to develop and implement a strategic external communications plan, grow our social media and web presence, and ensure quality of all communications materials. The position reports to the Managing Director.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with the Managing Director and Design Research Lead to develop a communications strategy to advance the DS4SI mission.
  • Create content and develop materials to be used with external constituencies with high-quality, consistent branding and messaging about DS4SI’s goals, programs, events, fund development efforts, etc.
  • Curate, post, and interact on all DS4SI social media accounts and online platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Vimeo, YouTube, Corsizio, Eventbrite, etc.)
  • Oversee all aspects of communication projects, including the development and printing of materials for programs and events, in conjunction with the DS4SI team and outside contractors
  • Maintain the DS4SI website ensuring it is up to date with current projects, events, images, and team members
  • Generate and distribute e-blasts (twice a month or as needed), including writing and curating content from internal and external sources
  • Conduct quality control on all communications
  • Attend events (DS4SI and partner events) and support special initiatives as needed



Qualifications

We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

  • Between 3 - 5 years working in communications, social media, or similar marketing role
  • Experience or interest in communicating about conceptual, social practice, performance, and/or public art projects, especially around how they engage with public life and public making
  • Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills, as well as problem-solving capabilities
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects while working on a deadline or in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • The technological ability to work on a variety of digital platforms (utilizing programs such as Mailchimp, Squarespace, Zoom, etc.) and also create web and mobile content
  • Willingness to grow and learn with the organization
  • Respect for economic and cultural diversity, experience working with diverse groups of people
  • Highly motivated and independent, yet team-oriented
  • Able to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Willing and able to work onsite in Boston at least 3 days/week

Additional Skills and Experience

  • Graphic design and video editing skills, and creativity to produce exciting and interesting content

Compensation and Benefits

Location: Work will be primarily performed onsite at 600 Columbia Road, Dorchester, MA.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $66,000 - $73,000/yr. and is commensurate with experience.
