Position: Deputy Director of Educational Initiatives

Location: New York City

Terms: Full-time, exempt position. This is a hybrid work position with an expectation to travel to and from Education Initiatives partner sites (within the New York Metro Area) and come into the office when requested. 

Position Overview

The Deputy Director supports PACT’s mission of anti-trafficking education and prevention efforts by engaging youth-serving community organizations, migrant-serving organizations, and shelters for people experiencing homelessness. This is done through the programs facilitated by the Educational Initiatives Department. Through the Educational Initiatives programs youth and adults are informed about the risks of child sexual exploitation, ways to avoid being exploited, how to take a stance on the issue, and how to speak with youth about exploitation and other difficult topics. The Educational Initiatives Department also uses a train the trainer model to teach community leaders the Y-ACT curriculum.  

The Deputy Director will focus on creating relationships between PACT and key stakeholders in the youth, adult, and migrant service sectors, working directly with youth and educators in different organizations, and developing department and organizational projects. In addition, the Deputy Director will be responsible for organizing national-level work to promote child trafficking prevention curricula.      

 Responsibilities:

  • Lead efforts to comply and reach department, agency, and grant(s) goals. 
  • Support the Department of Educational Initiatives, by overseeing certain grants including Unidos en Proteccion
  • Support the Department of Educational Initiatives,  in the absence of the Director on all relevant duties which include but are not limited to approving staff timesheets, meeting with staff, requesting purchases, representing the department on all relevant meetings.
  • Conduct outreach and create relationships with community, youth, and migrant service organizations which include, but are not limited to, K- 12 schools, parent organizations, after school programs, non-profit youth service organizations throughout New York City (progressively expanding)
  • Maintain and update database of potential schools and organizations as educational outreach partners
  • In collaboration with the Director of Educational Initiatives analyze youth program data including evaluation data from educational workshops 
  • Prepare quarterly reports for funders or internal supervisors
  • Develop and adapt lessons within PACT’s different curricula
  • Facilitate preventive workshops 
  • Under the supervision of the Director of Educational Initiatives conduct research on related topics and resources for educational programs
  • Organize and coordinate educational events
  • Guide and support Education Associates
  • Provide support and guidance to department interns
  • Recruit, train and supervise volunteers/interns/staff
  • Other tasks as needed

 Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in, Education or Human Rights-related field
  • 3+ years of workshop facilitation or public speaking experience
  • 2+ years of management experience 
  • Experience and comfort navigating the hierarchy of  New York City public schools
  • Experience engaging school stakeholders (i.e. principals, assistant principals, teachers, etc)
  • Eagerness to be creative and take initiative on new ideas and projects
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask in an effective manner
  • Knowledge of, and comfort with navigating, the NYC bus & train system
  • Proficiency in a language other than English a plus
