Case Manager - Member Development

Position Overview

Join us as a Case Manager and play a crucial role in empowering AmeriCorps Members to achieve their personal and professional aspirations. As a Case Manager, you will be at the forefront of our mission, guiding, coaching and providing case management services to a diverse cohort of over 150 members as they progress towards becoming workforce-ready and make a lasting impact on the community. Your efforts will be instrumental in helping our organization achieve its goals of ensuring members successfully complete their terms of service and seamlessly transition to employment and/or educational opportunities after their service.

Organization Overview

Civic Works strengthens Baltimore’s communities through education, skills development, and community service. Our AmeriCorps programs have significant community impact by tutoring and mentoring students, creating vibrant community parks and gardens, conserving energy in homes, growing food for low-income residents, rehabilitating abandoned houses, engaging families in Baltimore City schools, making homes safer for older adults, and mobilizing volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Case Management and Supportive Services
  • Provide case management services to program participants, including intake assessments, and short and long-term individual service plan development.
  • Provide direct support, guidance, and advocacy to help participants achieve their goals, including obtaining a valid driver’s license and vehicle, addressing legal concerns, meeting basic needs, developing financial stability, fostering resilience and positive social skills, and promoting workplace readiness.
  • Support Members during Enrollment
  • Conduct orientations and provide necessary assistance for successful enrollment.
  • Address member inquiries and resolve issues.
  • Collaborate on developing a comprehensive Resource Binder to support members.
  • Collaborate with programs to organize and facilitate Open Houses to recruit AmeriCorps members for open service opportunities.
  • Post-Service Placement and Alumni Support
  • Assist members with post-service planning, goal setting, and placement in employment and educational opportunities.
  • Establish and cultivate partnerships to facilitate post-service employment and education.
  • Support alumni with utilizing education awards, job searches, and resume writing.
  • Collect and share member success stories.
  • Personal/Professional Development & Training
  • Collaborate on developing an annual training calendar.
  • Organize workshops and training sessions for members' personal and professional growth.
  • Coordinate events focusing on post-service transition.


Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Team Support
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with grants and AmeriCorps policies.
  • Contribute with writing and distributing the biweekly newsletter.
  • Assist with member related HR onboarding and offboarding tasks
  • Assist with other administrative duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year case management or equivalent experience in counseling, coaching or mentoring.
  • Experience utilizing strategies such as motivational interviewing to guide participants to develop their job-readiness skills and attain their goals.
  • Experience working in and creating diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments.
  • Strong computer, organization, note-taking skills required, with experience using Google Suite and online database systems programs.
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or AmeriCorps programs preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work with others using a team model and general teamwork principles.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, interpersonal relations skills, and writing skills.
  • Ability to recognize problems, develop innovative solutions and implement them
  • Ability to adhere to a strict guideline of keeping and maintaining confidential information.
  • Ability to instruct others and serve as a professional role model.
  • Enthusiastic about working with AmeriCorps programs.
  • Able to build effective and supporting relationships with members from historically marginalized communities.
  • Committed to advancing racial equity across systems in Baltimore.
