ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW:

Bike Works, based in SE Seattle since 1996, promotes the bicycle as a vehicle for change to empower youth and build resilient communities. Our programs and services invest in young people and encourage bicycling. Our bike shop serves a large customer base with used bike sales, affordable repairs, and new and used parts and accessories. We take in over 7,000 bicycle donations annually and redistribute these bikes through our programs and bike shop. We are committed to continued learning and improvement, with a focus on social justice and racial equity.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

This position reports directly to the Program Director and is part of the Bike Works Youth Programs Team. Essentail job functions include creating, delivering, and managing Youth programming, aligned with the Bike Works Mission & Vision.

Manage School-Based Programming and Statewide Partnerships (50%)

  • Develop MOU’s and Partnership agreements
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Schools and Partnerships
  • Develop and deliver curriculum as needed
  • Provide training and mentorship to support team members and partners
  • Ensure adequate bike, tool and material selections for all programs
  • Work with the Programs and R&R staff to maintain tools, bikes and supplies for programs.
  • Record and track all program attendance, waivers, and expenses
  • In partnership with Program Director, develop and monitor program budgets

Curriculum Development and Evaluation (20%)

  • Develop curriculum with various levels of input from partners, and create activities and itineraries for programming within scope of partner agreements
  • In partnership with Youth Programs Team, facilitate and develop curriculum for ride leader trainings, train the trainer courses, and for bike program facilitators including community partners and Programs staff
  • Consult with the Programs Team on best practices

Work in partnership with other Bike Works staff, and Key Stakeholders to contribute to the organization's vision, participate in organization-wide programs, and help create a sustainable organizational culture (10%)

  • Engage in strategic planning process with staff and board
  • Regularly attend team and staff meetings and yearly retreats
  • Compile monthly reports to the Program Director on all activities

Co-Manage Risk management plans and implementation (10%)

  • Engage with and support the risk management committee
  • Develop fleet maintenance and security/safety protocols for vehicle usage
  • Create and update risk management policies and guidelines as needed
  • Create risk management scenarios and ways to test the system as needed

Fundraising and Event Planning to Support Youth Programs (10%)

  • Develop and manage program and event budgets
  • Provide innovation of new strategies to generate revenue
  • Collaborate with the Development Team and Program Director to support grant
  • writing and fundraising strategies
  • Write program updates and anecdotes for use in grants, reports, and promotional material
  • Work with Executive Director to develop organization-wide youth leadership opportunities
  • Consult with Development Team to ethically elevate youth voices and narratives in fundraising efforts and communications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with, and understanding of, diverse South Seattle communities
  • Commitment to environmental stewardship, social justice, and youth development
  • Passion for the mission, vision, and values of Bike Works
  • A.A. in Early Childhood Education or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and to handle multiple tasks
  • Experience working in multi-cultural/lingual environment
  • Bicultural/bilingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, French, Omoro, Amharic, Eritrean, Somali, or Tigrinya a plus
  • Must meet federal and state health and safety standards and maintain credentials for childcare (1st Aid, CPR)
  • Able to work flexible hours on occasion
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Respect for others’ experiences, opinions, language, values, culture, and knowledge
  • Access to a reliable source of transportation
  • WA state driver’s license and vehicle insurance
  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee families
