The U.S. Capitol Historical Society is a 501(c)(3), non-partisan, educational organization founded in 1962 and chartered by Congress to interpret and preserve the history of the U.S. Capitol and the U.S. Congress for the public. Its founder, a history teacher and congressman, was inspired by the belief that "to be a good citizen, you've got to know your history." The Society promotes historical literacy and knowledgeable citizenship through a broad range of programs aimed at all age groups. USCHS is not supported by government funding and no tax dollars contribute to its mission.
