Mission:

Since its inception in 1897, Hartley House has offered social and community services to the residents of Hell's Kitchen/Clinton on Manhattan's West Side (approx. W. 34th Street to W. 57th Street, and Eighth Avenue to the Hudson River). Historically, Hartley House has served a community made up of recent immigrants and the working poor, providing a wide range of programs and services designed to improve the quality of life for its neighbors. Still located in the original four adjoining brownstones on West 46th Street and Ninth Avenue, Hartley House provides a spacious and welcoming facility for community members of all ages. Hartley House has responded to the changing demographics of the neighborhood with positive alternatives and practical solutions to meet the needs of the community.
Programs for infants, children, teens, adults and seniors serve a daily average of 600 people, on and off-site. These programs include: Family Day Care, an After School Program, an Alternative High School, a Summer Day Camp, English as a Second Language classes, GED classes, Citizenship classes, Friendly Visiting and social activities for seniors, art and pottery classes, social work counseling and referrals, and our Home Outreach Program for Elders case management program for seniors. In addition, Hartley House works in collaboration with community agencies, sponsoring joint programs and hosting community activities.
