Brooklyn Community Housing and Services, Inc (BCHS) provides housing and supportive social services to help New York City's formerly homeless move from crisis to community. We offer transitional and permanent housing to over 300 residents.
BCHS was founded in 1978 as Pastoral And Educational Services, Inc, by clergy, mental health professionals and concerned neighbors. It was their response to the call from President Carter's Commission on Mental Health, which asked communities to take a broader role in meeting the needs of those in crisis.
The agency has evolved into a multi-program agency working to build foundations for mental health through adequate housing and support services at Brooklyn Gardens, A Bridge To Home and the Transitional Apartment Program.
