Description:
Literacy 'n' Poverty Project, also known to its supporters as LnP, is a startup and soon to be nonprofit organization that works to alleviate poverty and improve adult education worldwide. It's led by the founder, Chanelle Carver, and a rapidly growing team of volunteers that support the organization's ambitious goals and vision for social change. This is the beginning stage of what will become an international social enterprise.
Through advocacy, research and service, we address multiple aspects of literacy as a means to enable and empower adults and working families to life up out of poverty. Ultimately, our vision is to witness and live among a global society in which all adults have access to a quality education and the resources – financial, physical or social, opportunities and guidance that will help them provide for their families and lead fulfilling lives.
How does LnP differ from other adult education programs?
Our work in education is multidimensional in that we focus on reading, writing, financial and computer literacy. We will serve not only the illiterate (which a majority are living in poverty and considered the "bottom of the pyramid") but also with adults that may have a high school diploma, and living just above the poverty threshold, who are struggling to provide a better life for themselves and their families.
