BC3 is a partnership of Bay Area business leaders taking action to fight climate change. Our “5 Principles on Climate Leadership,” provide a strategic framework for sharing and modeling sustainable business practices. The BC3 empowers Bay Area businesses of all sizes to realize economic growth, environmental sustainability and social well-being.

In June of 2005, the City and County of San Francisco hosted United Nations World Environment Day, at which time
Mayor Gavin Newsom signed on to the UN Global Compact Cities Pilot Program. This led to a partnership between the city of San Francisco, the Bay Area Council, and the UN Global Compact to create an initiative that promotes business sector leadership on climate change. Since the launch of the Business Council on Climate Change (BC3) on March 1, 2007, over 65 forward thinking businesses in the Bay Area have joined the BC3, and have committed to taking steps to
addressing climate change. Activities and partners are constantly evolving, and interns have played a significant role in the growth of the organization in every stage of its development.
