Last updated: May 4, 2008

Description:

Reclaim the Streets NYC is new collective committed to redefining public spaces as sites of positive community interaction. We envision a greater potential for city streets, parks, and (rapidly disappearing) empty lots than places we simply pass through in our daily routines. In a city as diverse as New York City, these could easily be venues for open exchange and reclamation.

We envision dancing, stencils, interactive projects, marches, music, gatherings, food, sharing, exchanges, creations of all kinds, hip-hop, anti-gentrification demonstrations, bicycles, walks, and on. We are open to just about any other act you can dream up that will redefine our streets as sites of companionship, solidarity, play and—most of all—possibility. Let's go

How to participate:

Click [Join this Group] on the right hand side of this page. You must be logged in to join.

Wanna make a giant loft into a meeting space for rebel art and games and dancing? Or just meet up once and a while in a park and discuss tactics, plan, get together, make it happen. I don't really know, I just want to link our personal efforts together somehow. I am also up for a summer 3 day type event of reclamation, as in Chicago. Add your plans and thoughts, please.
