The mission of the United Way of Southern Nevada’s AmeriCorps Program is to provide direct services for nonprofit agencies, build agency capacity and promote community collaboration. As a leader in the community, United Way understands the importance of providing support to agencies that serve vital needs in our community. Through highly motivated, talented AmeriCorps members, our agencies are better able to serve those in need of social services.

In August 2009, the UWSN AmeriCorps Program will place 20 half-time members at 12 nonprofit agencies throughout southern Nevada to learn new skills, gain career-building experience and serve our community. AmeriCorps members provide 900 hours of service in a calendar year (an average of 20 hours per week). AmeriCorps membres work in programs for at-risk youth, disaster preparedness, community service, volunteer recruitment, the unemployed and working families.
