Mission:
The Kansas Community HealthCorps (KCHC) will place Corps members in safety net health clinics throughout Kansas. The goals of the program are to increase access to health care and reduce health disparities among underserved populations. Specifically, members will perform health outreach and education, act as case managers and advocates for patients, develop and support volunteer recruitment and retention within the health clinic site. Targeted service areas include diabetes, oral health, maternal-child health and breast and cervical cancer awareness. While serving the community, members also develop professional skills that will grow leadership and expertise. Recruitment is not limited to people seeking future careers in health care, but membership in Kansas Community HealthCorps is an excellent way to begin a health career. Kansas Community Health Corps serves sites in Kansas City, Lawrence, Emporia, Pittsburg, Wichita, Newton, Great Bend and Garden City. Recruitment begins in June 1 for a September 1, 2008 start date.
