Mission:

The Peter Young Residence is a150 bed men’s shelter funded by the New York City Department of Homeless Services which services the general population, the mentally ill and chemically addicted people, and methadone dependent men. We are a multidisciplinary transitional shelter. Clients reside in one to six man rooms. Our target population is homeless men 18 and over who are interested in recovery or employment and promoting self-sufficiency.

This large four story site provides a structured housing program for transition back into society. The goal is to habilitate individuals who are homeless and who have lost the life skills or the hope to function within our society.

Some of the services offered include education and training upon admission, compliance plan development, intervention, on-site care and nutritious, wholesome meals, 24 hour continuous coverage, and provision of a structured living plan. The average stay is between six and nine months.

The facility consists of 64 dorms, 34 bathrooms, a fully equipped dining area, medical clinic, recreation room, computer room with internet access, laundry room, and an on-site drug treatment clinic.
