"Longitudinal Study on Stress in Humanitarian Aid Workers"pdf

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, United States) in collaboration with the Antares Foundation (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) has initiated a longitudinal study on stress in humanitarian aid workers. The overall study goal is to provide in depth and scientifically valid information regarding mental health status of humanitarian workers working under stress and in hardship.

The present survey concerns the range of problems which may result from inappropriate handling of the different types of stress incurred by aid workers, and it examines the ways that more than 100 European NGOs are supporting their expatriate staff.

"Cultural Differences in Autobiographical Memory of Trauma"pdf

This study proposes to explore how individuals from individualistic/Western cultures represent trauma in autobiographical memory compared to individuals from collectivistic/Non-Western cultures and the influence of this on mental health and clinical treatment.

This report briefly reviews a study that examines why some NGOs seem to be more secure than others operating in the same area. By looking at characteristics of NGOs that have and have not been targets, the study concludes that there may be some elements that contribute to higher risk.
