Description

AmeriCorps Position - Hope For Youth Program Assistant

As an organization grounded in the Latino community of Washington State, it is the mission of El Centro de la Raza (The Center for People of All Races) to build the Beloved Community through unifying all racial and economic sectors; to organize, empower, and defend the basic human rights of our most vulnerable and marginalized populations; and to bring critical consciousness, justice, dignity, and equity to all the peoples of the world.

El Centro de la Raza is looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) Hope For Youth Program AmeriCorps member for the 2023-24 year! Our Youth Service Programs follow students through their entire educational journey. Beginning in elementary school, we offer case management to children and their caregivers providing socio-emotional development through a culturally relevant lens. We provide afterschool programming through an applied ethnic studies curriculum that supports identity development, community advocacy, and critical consciousness. Scholars then find us at their high school offering ethnic studies curriculum in partnership with teachers. As scholars transition to adulthood, we offer a number of workforce connections and career counseling to ensure scholars build pathways towards meaningful lives. Alongside these programs, we integrate intergenerational support through monthly workshops in our La Escuelita program, a parent/caregiver educational group. This position will support our Hope for Youth program for at-risk high school youth.

Duties include: Facilitate monthly workshops for high school youth; Assist in workshops exploring leadership styles, social justice activities; Design a social media campaign for outreach to increase participation; Lead the design of a community service learning opportunity.

Benefits of an AmeriCorps position include: A monthly stipend to cover living expenses; An education award of up to $6,895 that can be used for future schooling or to pay off existing qualified student loan debt; Basic health insurance; and workers’ compensation coverage. AmeriCorps members must be citizens of the United States. Positions begin as soon as this month and end in July 2024!
