AmeriCorps Position - Financial Empowerment Program Assistant

As an organization grounded in the Latino community of Washington State, it is the mission of El Centro de la Raza (The Center for People of All Races) to build the Beloved Community through unifying all racial and economic sectors; to organize, empower, and defend the basic human rights of our most vulnerable and marginalized populations; and to bring critical consciousness, justice, dignity, and equity to all the peoples of the world. 

El Centro de la Raza is looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) Financial Empowerment Program AmeriCorps member for the 2023-24 year! Our financial education and asset building programs include comprehensive, culturally competent education and counseling services to individuals who wish to have a better grasp and understanding of their finances. This includes information on how to improve credit, reduce debt, increase savings and become banked.

Duties include: Help prepare and coordinate lesson plans relating to financial empowerment and job readiness including financial literacy, increasing savings, reducing debt, and building credit; Engage with students, instructors and staff on a daily basis to support student success in increasing knowledge and skills relating to personal financial stabilization, asset building, and increasing job skills; Help students with resume writing, job applications and mock interviews; Coordinate with organizational staff to provide relevant referrals to other community based services as needed.

Benefits of an AmeriCorps position include: A monthly stipend to cover living expenses; An education award of up to $6,895 that can be used for future schooling or to pay off existing qualified student loan debt; Basic health insurance; and workers’ compensation coverage. AmeriCorps members must be citizens of the United States. Positions begin as soon as this month and end in July 2024!
