Social Engagement Program at Mystic Valley Elder Services
Connecting with others—whether in person or virtually—can help reduce isolation and feelings of loneliness. This “social engagement” provides many benefits, including improved emotional well-being and mental health, better physical health, a renewed sense of purpose, and…a longer life span!
The Social Engagement Program at Mystic Valley Elder Services helps improve the health and well-being of isolated older adults in by pairing them with volunteers who provide meaningful social connections—whether it be through regular in-person visits, phone calls, card and letter writing, and/or email messaging.
Trained and carefully screened volunteers are matched with consumers (aka clients) in the communities we serve for friendship and support. Matches are based on geography, availability, and the interests and preferences of both the consumer and the volunteer.
Time commitment: approximately 1-2 hours per week

To ensure the safety and fulfillment of volunteers and the community, prospective volunteers must complete a full application, agree to a criminal record background check, and be approved by our Volunteer Services department before receiving a volunteer assignment with Mystic Valley Elder Services.
