Description

AmeriCorps Position - Si Se Puede Program Assistant

As an organization grounded in the Latino community of Washington State, it is the mission of El Centro de la Raza (The Center for People of All Races) to build the Beloved Community through unifying all racial and economic sectors; to organize, empower, and defend the basic human rights of our most vulnerable and marginalized populations; and to bring critical consciousness, justice, dignity, and equity to all the peoples of the world.

El Centro de la Raza is looking for a bilingual (English/Spanish) ‘Si Se Puede’ Program AmeriCorps member for the 2023-24 year! Our Youth Service Programs follow students through their entire educational journey. Beginning in elementary school, we offer case management to children and their caregivers providing socio-emotional development through a culturally relevant lens. We provide afterschool programming through an applied ethnic studies curriculum that supports identity development, community advocacy, and critical consciousness. Scholars then find us at their high school offering ethnic studies curriculum in partnership with teachers. As scholars transition to adulthood, our ‘Si Se Puede’ Program offer a number of GED, workforce connections and career counseling services to ensure our youth are able to build pathways towards meaningful lives. The Si Se Puede Program Assistant position is an opportunity to learn about nonprofit programs in the context of community empowerment and development.

Duties include: Educate local community members about the Program; Host informational recruiting events at local high schools; Participate in Radio Talk Show Segment to promote program cohorts; Provide 1:1 career counseling for young adults; Provide weekly mentorship to program participants.

Benefits of an AmeriCorps position include: A monthly stipend to cover living expenses; An education award of up to $6,895 that can be used for future schooling or to pay off existing qualified student loan debt; Basic health insurance; and workers’ compensation coverage. AmeriCorps members must be citizens of the United States. Positions begin as soon as this month and end in July 2024!
