Description:

In this program volunteer will be staying with a local host family and help in their dally house work 5 days in a week.
Agriculture is one of the oldest occupations in Nepal and approximately 90% of our population works in this sector. There was a major breakthrough in agricultural production in the 1960's with the introduction of the new agricultural technology based on the high yielding variety of crops. The success of Nepalese agriculture, however, lies in the successful transfer of this new technology to the fields. Agricultural Sciences and allied fields are continually developing and changing as new knowledge is gained through research and new technology revolutionizes working methods. The fields allied to agriculture cover areas like horticulture, animal husbandry and veterinary sciences, dairy science, sericulture, fisheries and forestry, seed collection and distribution, erosion and flood control etc. Horticulture involves doing research work on plants and is a much-applied field. It is a science that includes floriculture or cultivation of flowers. In agriculture the volunteer has to be actively involved in planting, harvesting, marketing and other aspects of fieldwork
|| PROGRAM LOCATION
The placements are available in Kathmandu Valley, Kavre, Langtang, Pokhara, Nawalparasi and Chitwan, all of which are near to a major city. Volunteers can look up the places to get more of a feel for the areas and we can discuss where you will stay when you arrive according to your needs and with considerations of safety of volunteers and availability. Our local co-ordinators will be looking after you.

We also can manage placements for 30 people as we have 30 facilities to place volunteers at a time but we need to receive flight arrival information at least a month in advance.

|| YOUR DAY AT THE PLACEMENT

In a typical placement volunteers stay in a family where they eat Nepali food with the family twice a day (around 9 o' clock in the morning and 7 o' clock in the evening). Tea is served in the morning and in the afternoon. Volunteers may have the opportunity to get together with other volunteers and share their experience. You will be able to travel to nearby towns to purchase things for daily use and could travel to other areas on longer vacation. Besides your project work, volunteers can utilize their spare time in organizing the youth and women's groups of the community to do some worthwhile activities like building a smokeless stove, toilet by using local materials, making a soak pit, kitchen gardening, making a solar dryer, garbage management or paper recycling.
