Description:
We are looking for volunteers to work with us at our bio-diesel plant. We are located in the village of Tiruchuli in the Indian state of Tamilnadu. This plant has been set up by ODAM NGO to empower rural women self help groups through the Jatropha cultivation of their land to provide a sustainable source of income. The general public who utilise the bio-diesel produced from the unit will also benefit from this project. We welcome volunteers with experience in working with non-edible oil seeds to assist in the development of this plant. With your input we would like to expand the plant by introducing modern technology to increase the benefit to the local community. To achieve this aim we would like volunteers to assist in researching into the possibilities of using alternative non-edible oil plants for developing bio-diesel. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in this field to make a real difference in our community. You will play an active role in improving the socio-economic position of the rural community whilst also helping in the promotion of renewable energy sources. This is a pilot scheme in India and we are very eager to receive guidance and education in modern technology from foreign volunteers.
We are not in a position to meet your airfare and other expenses. However, we will receive you from Madurai Airport and we arrange and provide your accommodation in a private room (not with a family, unless requested), Indian home cooked food 3 times a day, packaged drinking water and all transportation from Tiruchuli to factory spot by our cost. Your weekend trips, to purchase of food like meat in tin package for your taste and Indian dress materials etc; are at volunteers' expense. We are looking for a 3-6 month time commitment.
