Description:

Position: Youth on Fire (YOF) Volunteer
Reports to: YOF Volunteer Coordinator & Program Manager

Commitment: Two three-hour shift per week for 6 months, plus volunteer orientation and trainings

Shift: Shifts are available on Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, & Fri. Youth on Fire is open from 11:30 - 6PM (M,W,TH,F) and 1:30-6PM (Tuesday.)

Responsibilities:
1) Build positive professional relationships with members.
2) Respond to daily needs of program (these are always changing, but may include filing, walking to the post office to get mail, and other special projects)
3) Alert staff to any incidents that you are aware of (psychological issues, arguments, harassment, rule violations, etc.)
4) Monitor all YOF spaces and ensure that members remain in these spaces only
5) Intake: staff reception area; meet and greet all incoming members; screen out unqualified applicants
6) Main Space: Interact with members; assist members in acquiring hygiene products, snacks, and other needs; assist members on computers (resumes, employment/housing searches, etc.); remind members to participate in daily chore; assist with upkeep of area
7) Laundry/Shower: Staff area; hold members accountable for cleanliness of area; assist members in keeping to time restraints; manage schedule/sign-up
8) Clothing area: Sort incoming and outgoing donations; hold member accountable for cleanliness of area; reorganize area periodically
9) Kitchen: assist with meal preparation and cleanup;

Qualifications:
1) Sensitive to issues experienced by homeless and street-involved youth
2) Flexible in meeting needs of program (as needs may be very diverse)
3) Open to the HARM REDUCTION philosophy of program
4) At least 18 years of age
5) Able to meet minimus commitment requirement
