Description:

Mid/long term volunteering opportunities in rural Thailand in 2008/09. Full project descriptions available at our brand new website.

Fern Thai is a non-profit organisation. All costs involved cover the running and administration of the foundation and any surplus cash is re-invested into projects within the community.
Our fee will cover all expenses concerned with your village stay, including all household bills, rental, water, electricity and gas for cooking. We have also secured the usage of a fleet of mountain bikes, donated by the UNDP to the village, to aid your travel within the community. For this service we pay a nominal fee.
However, it is our policy at Fern Thai to be 100% honest with our volunteers, therefore we list the 3 fundamental things our fee does not cover so you can factor these into your stay. Firstly our fee does not cover travel expenses from Bangkok to the village or return - although the bus fares in Thailand are extremely modest (around 700 baht ($20) for a one way 10 hour bus ticket) Secondly our fee does not cover your food - you will have to purchase this yourself. Again, you will find Thailand extremely modest when it comes to this. And lastly you need to purchase your own drinking water, again extremely reasonable. Apart from that, Fern Thai pretty much covers all other expenses involved with your village stay.
At this moment in time all of our staff work on a part-time voluntary basis although it is hoped in the future we can employ a resident Thai full time, to bring you an even better level of service.
Fern Thai would like to re-assure you our committment lies with the people we exist to help, and, unlike some other organisations, our intrests lie solely with helping others and not with any thoughts of making money.
