Description:

Blue Ventures is an award-winning marine conservation organisation dedicated to conservation, education and sustainable development in tropical coastal communities.

Through our marine expeditions, volunteers from around the world join us on career breaks, student gap years and internships, working closely with our field research teams, in partnership with local communities.

We offer volunteers the chance to work hand-in-hand with local biologists, marine institutes, NGOs, and communities whose livelihoods depend on coral reefs, to carry out research, environmental awareness and conservation programmes for threatened reef habitats. Despite the value of our work, many of the nations we have worked with have no resources to undertake these projects themselves.

This is an invaluable opportunity to enjoy a diving expedition whilst partaking in a highly regarded environmental conservation project based at one of the most remote and beautiful locations in the world. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life and all ages to join our six-week expeditions. Novice divers are trained to PADI certification level (Advanced Open Water or higher) and all volunteers are trained by our marine science staff with knowledge and skills specific to the region. The cost for the project is £2100 including diving training, or £1900 for those whom are already qualified to at least PADI
Advanced Open Water (or equivalent). For our overseas research projects, the only pre-requisites are that you must be a competent swimmer, physically fit, able to pass a diving medical examination, and enthusiastic to work as part of a dynamic team in a remote and often challenging environment.

Volunteers are always welcome to stay for longer than a single six-week period. We are currently signing on volunteers for our research site at Andavadoaka, south-western Madagascar. If you are interested in joining Blue Ventures as a volunteer at our field site in Madagascar, please email us at madagascar@blueventures.org. You will be asked to complete and submit a short application. This form is not a test, and is designed to let us know more about you.

Once you have submitted the form, you will hear from us within a few days.

We will then give you a short interview, normally over the phone, in order for you to find out more about us and in order for us to assess your suitability.

For more information on what you would be doing as a volunteer research assistant, please visit our website at http://www.blueventures.org.
