Description:

WHO WE ARE:

The Eviction Defense Collaborative (EDC) is a non-profit legal clinic dedicated to preventing homelessness by providing legal and rental assistance to tenants facing eviction. In our legal capacity, the EDC assists tenants facing evictions by preparing papers for them to file in court. In our rental assistance capacity (Rental Assistance Disbursement Component, or RADCo) we provide one-time rental assistance to tenants who are facing eviction because they have fallen behind in their rent.

The EDC has been helping tenants fight evictions since 1996. In collaboration with other legal and tenants’ rights organizations, the EDC provides much needed information and resources to tenants regarding a number of eviction issues.

WHO WE SERVE:

The EDC is available to serve the entire residential tenant population of San Francisco. We do not turn away anyone for lack of funds; however, we do charge a sliding scale fee for the services we provide.

The majority of tenants we help are extremely low income and facing the immediate threat of becoming homeless. In addition to legal and rental assistance, the EDC is often able to refer these tenants to other agencies providing additional social services.

VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION:

The EDC is currently in search of someone with a proficiency in IT skills to assist us in updating and maintaining our office network and workstations. We have a small office with about 20 desks, all needing computer workstations able to interact with one another. Our office computers run Windows with a Linux server.

We’ve received assistance in the past but would like someone to come in on a more regular basis to assist us specifically with our IT needs. The hourly commitment for this position can vary depending on current projects needing attention. Working on weekends and evenings is a possibility in addition to normal work hours. Ideally we would like a volunteer commitment to last for a good length of time.

Some examples of what we could use help on are the following:

- The updating of our server and installation of a new hard disk
- The installation of a various software programs on all our workstations
- New workstations needing to be set up, tested, and deployed, involving ghosting programs from one station to another
- The installation of hardware components
- Basic maintenance and upkeep of our office’s computer system, including troubleshooting of minor problems
