You are: passionate about fundraising, development and forging the relationships that will turn the dream of Capitol Letters Writing Center into a reality.

We are: A 100% volunteer-run nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC. A creative and committed group of writers, community leaders, and educators who are helping students to raise their voices through creative writing workshops, one-on-one tutoring, and teacher partnerships.

Position Summary:
In close coordination with the Development Committee, the Director of Development will:
- Call on potential donors, grow those relationships and make the "ask," with support from others as appropriate
- Develop and implement new fundraising strategies
- Oversee our development committee's efforts to identify relevant prospective funding sources (individual donors, foundations, etc.)
- Provide leadership to fundraising volunteers, staff and Board members
- Work with our team to create outreach materials to increase CLWC's visibility

Qualifications:
- 3+ years experience in fundraising and/or public relations
- Strong interpersonal skills, including high comfort level interfacing with potential "high dollar" donors
- Strong knowledge of development, including grant writing, working with foundations, reporting, prospect research and tracking, etc.
- Highly organized with a proven track record in organizing and implementing fundraising campaigns
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- (Strongly preferred) Ability to commit to volunteering with us for a minimum of 6 months
