FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund is a new initiative that funds and strengthens the participation and leadership of young feminist activists globally. The Fund is a collaborative effort between the Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID), The Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres/Central American Women's Fund (FCAM) and an experienced group of young feminist activists from different regions ofthe world.
FRIDA was created to bring new resources and opportunities to young women and transgender youth globally. We believe that supporting young feminists is key to the expansion, rejuvenation and sustainability of women's movements and organizations. FRIDA provides funding to youth-led initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean, The Middle East, Africa, Asia & Pacific and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
What does FRIDA do?
The Fund's Theory of change derives from the core belief that women's movements are strengthened when young women and transgender youth and their organizations are provided with the resources and capacity they need to mobilize resources for their work. Supporting young feminists is key to the expansion, rejuvenation and sustainability of women's movements and organizations, both now and in the future.
The Fund defines young feminist activists as young people from across the gender spectrum committed to advancing gender equality and women's rights through explicitly feminist means. Based on the understanding that discrimination occurs within all societies, the term 'feminist' is used to refer to individuals working within women's movements or in other social movements to advance the rights equality, justice, dignity, freedom and safety of women, girls and marginalized groups.
