Finding a good nonprofit job, especially if this is your first attempt, is not easy. For the last four years, Idealist.org has been addressing this need by matching nonprofit organizations with the people they need. In 2001, we launched a series of Nonprofit Career Fairs for job seekers of all levels to meet organizations face-to-face and explore the variety of opportunities available in the nonprofit sector. In 2001 and the spring of 2002, we organized over 30 events across the country that were attended by over 1,500 organizations and 15,000 individuals. At the Nonprofit Career Fairs you'll be able to meet face-to-face with a variety of organizations in an informal setting. Attendance is free, but it would be great if you could register so that we can know how many people to expect. You should also register for a free service called "My Idealist" that enables you to receive one daily email with all the jobs, volunteer opportunities, internships and other information posted by the organizations in Idealist based on your interests and location. To register go to http://www.idealist.org/mylogin. You might also be interested in our Nonprofit Career Center at http://www.idealist.org/career.html, which lists every nonprofit job site on the web that we could find; a list of fellowships in public service, academic programs for nonprofit managers, professional associations in the nonprofit sector, and one-year service opportunities in the US; tips on working and volunteering abroad; and more. Here's what some people who found their job through us are saying about Idealist:
"I love idealist.org, and am trying very hard to find a job in the nonprofit sector. This website is the best that I have found, with updates sent to my email address, and the reminders about the jobfair that is coming up. I am sure that you receive many emails every day, so I will keep this short, and just express my appreciation and gratitude!" Leonie Giles
"Thank you to you and your colleagues who made the Minneapolis career fair possible. I attended and had an opportunity to meet and talk with representatives from many of the organizations. Unlike other career fairs I've attended, I really liked the fact that the organizations were all non-profit and social service related. On more than one occasion, I've left career fairs with few leads or prospects simply because of the lack of non-profit or social service related representation. I also attended one of the panel discussions and found the panelists' advice to be very helpful and resourceful. I hope that idealist.org continues to sponsor or share in the partnership of such events in the future! Molly Doran
