Event Tips and Suggestions – For Member Organizations
Observe and document the staffing/HR issues that come up in member discussions and forums. Are members talking about recruiting under the auspices of general management? Does high turnover come up in member discussions? Do Executive Directors keep talking about their struggles with compensation plans or staff motivation? These are human resources issues, not simply "management" problems, and it may be time to devote explicit energies to collecting them under the HR umbrella.
To create an HR focus for your member organizations:
Develop a human resources subgroup, and launch it online with an email listserv.
Monitor “hot topics” and develop them into workshops at face-to-face convenings.
At your next convening, coordinate a special interest group meal around human resources issues.
Are your member organizations willing to absorb travel expenses for an annual HR meeting? Perhaps an annual gathering could be planned, with rotating HR directors responsible for the event coordination?
These are just a few of the many simple ways that your organization can be strengthened and supported in its human resources challenges.
