Navigating the Nonprofit Human Resources Center

The Nonprofit Human Resources Center contains a great deal of information. Here are a few pointers to help you begin to make the most of the Nonprofit HR Center:

If you are very new to HR or could use a refresher, start with the Introduction to Human Resources section. This area covers the definition of HR, the differences between nonprofit and for-profit HR and some of the quintessential concerns faced by HR staff. Additionally, this area explores a theoretical model, which classifies the variety of roles and responsibilities of HR within an organization.

If you are looking for tools and information on a particular HR function, the HR Focus Areas section covers an array of topics that will be sure to assist any HR practitioner.

In the Networking section, users can connect and share information with one another in numerous ways. There, you can start or join support structures for nonprofit HR in your area. Sample models are provided to help you start your own group and coordinate events. You can also communicate with others in our online forum, and find information on associations and e-groups from around the world.

And finally, the Idealist HR Services and Events section explains a few of the ways in which Action Without Borders/Idealist.org can support your HR needs, from our nonprofit career fairs around the United States to the many ways you can recruit staff on Idealist.org. Be sure to subscribe to our e-newsletter, Idealist.org Nonprofit Human Resources Monitor, to get the latest news, resources, and tools to support your career and organization. As we develop new services that support HR professionals, we'll add them to this section.

We hope the Nonprofit Human Resources Center proves valuable to you in your work. Enjoy it, and please let us know if you have comments or suggestions! Thank you.
