Mission:

Bellevue Hospital Center, the oldest public hospital in the country, has served patients since 1736. Today´s Bellevue is a modern, full-service facility providing comprehensive medical, psychiatric and social services, including inpatient, outpatient and world-renowned emergency care.

Bellevue Hospital Center provides high quality, respectful and accessible health care services to the people of our neighboring community and throughout New York City. Care is provided to all who require clinical and social support, regardless of ability to pay. Our tradition of public health, education and research continues as our guiding principle.

A hospital within a hospital, Bellevue´s Emergency Department is a Level-I Trauma Center, a Replantation Center, Head and Spinal Cord Injury Center, and a 911 Receiving Hospital in the nationally designated categories of cardiac, neurological, toxicologic, neonatal and psychiatric emergencies.

The completely renovated and expanded Emergency Department, which opened in April 1996, is one of the country´s largest. It offers a unique, peaceful, spacious environment with substantial privacy to enhance patient dignity.
