Description:
The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) is a national, not-for-profit organization founded in 1994 by Harvard Business School Professor Michael E. Porter. ICIC identifies market-based growth opportunities through our world- class research, consulting and programs. We believe that market-driven growth leads to sustainable jobs, income and wealth for inner city residents. ICIC changes perceptions and unites corporate and civic leaders to take action. An inner city renaissance is possible, and ICIC is helping to make it a reality.
ICIC advocates a paradigm shift in the approach to inner-city economic development. We seek to replace the traditional focus on urban blight and community deficiencies with a more constructive focus on market opportunities. The concepts behind ICIC were articulated by Professor Porter in his widely disseminated article, “The Competitive Advantage of the Inner City” (May/June 1995 issue of the Harvard Business Review).
ICIC invites nominations and applications for an outstanding Senior Analyst for Research. The ideal candidate for this position has exceptional analytical skills and strong familiarity with the latest database, GIS, and statistical products available to collect and analyze data. The Senior Analyst must also be able to analyze data and explore issues and address key challenges associated with urban economic development.
The Senior Analyst will be instrumental in helping shape and inform the research agenda of a national think tank devoted to defining and shaping the practice of market-driven approaches to inner city economic development. Through our work we attempt to stimulate business investment in the inner city, thereby creating jobs, income, and wealth for inner city residents.
Additional Qualifications:
• M.A./M.S. in Economics, Business Administration, Urban Development/Planning, or Government and minimum of 2 years professional work experience;
• Demonstrated skills in using Microsoft Access, GIS, MS PowerPoint, and statistical software programs such as SPSS;
• Ability to organize and manage complex data sets;
• Proven ability to translate analytical work into written and public presentations;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills;
• A commitment to the revitalization of inner cities;
• Familiarity with regional and economic development policy, practice and literature preferred.
