Description:
Job Description
Our digital learning program seeks an experienced, enthusiastic, and practical teaching couple who have a passion for technology and education. We use the XO laptops from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative. This one-year contract (starting October 2008) requires a highly skilled and motivated couple to teach and oversee the running of our English and Computer program. Applicants should hold a teaching qualification and be familiar with Montessori-style teaching methodology. Experience in teaching literacy to young learners is desirable.
Program Description
Our innovative program provides English and Computer classes for students attending a government primary school in rural Preah Vihear, Cambodia. Students have received XO laptops from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative, and we are using this new technology to facilitate rich learning experiences and develop students' independent thinking and problem-solving skills.
Location
We work in one of the most remote locations in Cambodia. Our digital learning program is truly unique. Set in a rural Cambodian farming community, children attend government classes for half the day and our classes for the other half. This is a rare chance to live and work in a remote rural community, while having access to cutting-edge technology. The school has WiFi connectivity.
Remuneration
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Comfortable accommodation is provided.
Our Organization
Cambodia~p.r.i.d.e. (Providing Rural Innovative Digital Education) (www.cambodiapride.org) is a non-profit foundation focused on bringing the most innovative computer education to the poorest rural primary schools in Cambodia. The digital learning program in Preah Vihear Province now serves as an innovative “school within a school” complementing the rudimentary government primary school system. Students program in digital environments developed at the MIT Media Lab, which allow the children to build their own multimedia creations on the computer as easily as they would build physical structures using building blocks. The XO laptops allow children to continue learning independently, even outside school hours.
How to Apply:
Please send CV and Cover Letter detailing why you would like to apply for this position and the skills and experience you can bring to our program.
