Description:
ARHP—one of the best and most unique places to work in DC—is now seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, flexible, and organized director of education who knows about health care, professional education, and training. We’re looking for the perfect candidate to help guide ARHP’s team of passionate, committed, smart, and savvy education professionals to develop the best possible programs. The ideal person for this job would also bring some clinical knowledge and experience to the table.
ARHP is a pro-choice medical association with a mission to educate health care providers, the public, and policymakers. Advancing reproductive health for over 45 years, ARHP is widely known as the convener of renowned, passionate and committed professionals in the field. ARHP offers a variety of educational activities, including live workshops, web-based sessions, publications, brochures, an annual meeting, and others.
Responsibilities
The director of education works as part of ARHP’s executive team of senior staff members to advance ARHP’s mission as it pertains to education. He/she is responsible for oversight of ARHP’s educational activities and jointly sponsored activities, including programs, conferences, meetings, webinars, and publications. The director of education oversees strategic planning for the education department, oversees accreditation compliance, and oversees the work of program managers, education associates, and education assistants. He/she also participates in the development of new programs. The director of education incorporates quality control and customer service principles into all aspects of the position.
Educational Activities
- Oversees accreditation compliance for ARHP-sponsored programs and activities according to guidelines from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, and other appropriate accrediting bodies.
- Coordinates with ARHP medical director, education committee members, planning committee members, consultants, and appropriate staff on program development and program faculty recruitment.
- Oversees content of program-related pages within the ARHP web site.
- Manages education committee efforts, including updates to ARHP’s continuing medical education mission, and other education policies, as appropriate.
- Oversees planning and logistics for all ARHP educational activities, including working with program managers to prepare and enforce timelines for program development and implementation.
- Identifies and makes recommendations about new and innovative topics and delivery methods for continuing education programs.
- Identifies and makes recommendations about new activities and potential collaborative projects with other organizations.
- Informs ARHP staff members about current educational programs and industry trends.
Human Resources
- Serves as immediate supervisor to associate director of education, program managers, education associate and education assistant.
- Identifies appropriate consultants for educational programs, including writers, copy editors, designers, and others.
- Manages contracts for various education consultants.
Fundraising
- Assists the president and works collaboratively with director of development in fundraising for all of ARHP’s educational activities.
Communication and Membership
- Works collaboratively with director of communications and communications staff to oversee production of educational activity promotional materials.
- Staffs ARHP exhibit booths, as needed.
Administration
- Performs general office administrative duties including processing mail, answering the telephone, setting up conference calls and other duties, as needed.
- Works collaboratively with president and CEO, other directors, and the board of directors on the organization’s strategic plan.
Hours
Thirty-five hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, with exceptions/variances in standard schedule agreement granted by the president. This is an exempt position that sometimes requires travel and extended work hours.
Reporting
The director of education reports to ARHP’s president and CEO.
