United Way of the Bay Area seeks a creative, detail and results oriented individual to raise money for Bay Area health and human care programs by cultivation, solicitation, closure and continual stewardship of current and prospective corporate, foundation, State and Federal grants.
As a Grant Writer/Researcher you will coordinate all aspects of obtaining private gifts and grants from corporations, foundations, State and Federal funding sources. Key responsibilities include prospecting and researching grant-making opportunities via the Internet and other resources, writing grant applications and related materials, managing existing grants and cultivating relationship, and communicating and coordinating effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Additionally this position will take the lead in identifying Government funding opportunities.
The ideal candidate will have tremendous organizational and time management skills, strong research abilities as well as the ability to serve as key coordinator responsible for managing grant programs. Candidates must be deadline-driven, committed to excellent customer service and have the ability to independently drive projects with multiple stake-holders. Excellent grant writing skills as well as gift tracking and monitoring are imperative. This role will be the primary contact point for all grant related paperwork.
Responsibilities include:
• Promote a collegial atmosphere within the company, working cooperatively with all staff to help them and particularly the Development Department attain their overall financial and advancement goals.
• Develop and maintain a calendar and portfolio of funding sources to support United Way of the Bay Area’s mission.
• Work with staff to identify and analyze prospective sources of funding including, but not limited to, corporate and private foundations, State and Federal funding sources.
• Create “boiler plate” for developing future grant proposals.
• Maintain grant prospects, research, final reports and communication in Andar database and hard copy files.
• Write, renew and submit grants via corporate and government on-line submission systems and prepare proposal packages for print submissions. Compiling all required pieces for grant submission and ensure all stated time, format and design guidelines are met.
• Assist in developing methods for ensuring compliance with grant requirements and evaluation of program outcomes.
• Collaborate with the Community Investment department to collate information for milestone reporting and to write and submit quarterly and annual progress reports to granting authorities.
• Work with Finance and Accounting to ensure proper expenditure of funds.
• Maintain internal records of proposals submitted and proposals in development.
• Assists with development and implementation of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
Requirements:
• Advanced non-profit/philanthropic development experience;
• Consistent track record of success in grant writing and contract management;
• Proven track record in successfully applying for and fulfilling State and Federal Government grants;
• Demonstrated ability to research and access information about new funders, foundations, etc.;
• Strong business writing and proofreading skills, and the ability to write persuasive content with absolute attention to detail;
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to work under time constraints and meet deadlines;
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external staff;
• Experience in recordkeeping, reporting, grant preparation and submission. Strong organizational skills needed;
• Strong computer skills including above average competency in Word and Excel. Comfort and knowledge of Internet;
• Supports an inclusive environment and values the individual traits, skills and talents of all staff, volunteers, and donors;
• Supervisory and project management experience desirable;
• A minimum of three years of grant writing or contract management experience;
• Four year college degree.
