Description:
The food service industry offers disadvantaged workers both a wide range of entry-level jobs as well as opportunities for advancement. In 1992 Project Renewal began experimenting with various training program models. In 1995, these efforts culminated in the creation of what is now our award-winning Culinary Arts Training Program. The program has proven to be an enormous success: better than 85% of graduates have been placed in jobs since inception.
Comfort Foods was started in 1998 to extend our Culinary Arts program as well as capitalize on our years of experience in creating delicious, healthful meals for more than a thousand of our clients each day. Comfort Foods provides training experience for Culinary Arts students and jobs for program graduates while offering low-cost, nutritious meals to shelters, drop-in centers, senior citizen centers and other not-for-profits and catering services for parties and conferences.
We are currently seeking a Program Assistant to support our Executive Chef in the daily operations of the Culinary Arts Training Program and Comfort Foods as well as Project Renewal's Food Service.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Organizing and maintaining all office systems.
• Compiling and organizing data on the Culinary Arts Training Program's (CATP) yearly enrollment for the end of the year reports.
• Acting as liaison between New York State Office of VESID and CATP participants.
• Ordering food and supplies for programs.
• Preparing invoices for Comfort Foods.
Other duties, as assigned by Executive Chef.
Additional Qualifications:
BA/BS degree or equivalent experience. Strong organizational and administrative skills. Excellent computer skills with special knowledge of Access, Word, Excel and Winway. Solid communication and math skills.
