Description:
The International Planned Parenthood/ Western Hemisphere Region is seeking a professional with specific expertise in the area of STI/HIV/AIDS in Latin America and the Caribbean for the position of Program Officer - STI/HIV/AIDS. The Officer will be responsible for providing conceptual and strategic leadership for IPPF/WHR on STI/HIV/AIDS. In addition, the individual will be tasked with developing and implementing an integrated STI/HIV/AIDS strategy for the IPPF/WHR Regional Office. The Officer will serve as a resource on policy and programmatic implementation for IPPF/WHR staff, colleagues, and partners on HIV/AIDS.
Responsibilities
• Take a lead role in the design, implementation and monitoring of the STI/HIV/AIDS strategy and program.
• Integrate the STI/HIV/AIDS strategy with other programmatic areas of the organization, including youth, abortion, gender-based violence and access to sexual and reproductive health components.
• Work closely with the advocacy team on related HIV/AIDS initiatives, including at the regional and international decision-making levels.
• Design, develop and manage STI/HIV/AIDS projects in collaboration with IPPF Member Associations and other partner agencies.
• Participate in dissemination activities related to STI/HIV/AIDS programs in the region, including the development of articles for publication, and presentations at professional meetings.
• Provide programmatic guidance and technical assistance to IPPF Member Associations in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
• Work with development staff, retain relations with donors, contribute to proposals, and support fundraising efforts as needed.
Additional Qualifications:
Requirements
• MPH, MA or MD with specialization in public health or other relevant field and a minimum of 8 years related experience. PhD or MD also desirable.
• Extensive experience working in HIV/AIDS in Latin America and/or the Caribbean.
• Demonstrated knowledge of program planning, design, management and evaluation.
• A commitment to advancing sexual rights, reproductive rights, and gender equality
• Willingness to travel frequently to Latin America and the Caribbean
• Strong oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English required.
• Ability to think strategically and creatively and work within a team-based environment.
