Description:
Safe Horizon is the nation’s leading nonprofit victim assistance, advocacy and violence prevention program. Safe Horizon’s Child Advocacy Centers play a critical, front-line role in responding to child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse by providing a coordinated and collaborative approach to the investigation of such cases, while ensuring that victims receive immediate, effective support. In each Child Advocacy Center (CAC), Safe Horizon partners with the New York Police Department, the Administration for Children’s Services, the local District Attorney and local medical providers to ensure that an expert response begins as soon as a child victim steps through the door.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Program Assistant is the first point of contact for all children and families entering the CAC. The Program Assistant will welcome and orient every child and non-offending family members to the CAC and immediately link the family to a Senior Case Manager. The Program Assistant plays a critical role in creating an environment that is safe, welcoming and upholds the core values and mission of the CAC. In addition, the Program Assistant is responsible for:
• Answering and directing telephone calls, faxes and mail directed to department of site;
• Managing reception area;
• Acts as liaison with MDT partners for purchasing supplies, processing paperwork;
• Linking all families to the appropriate CAC service providers;
• Supervising the child play area;
• Collecting basic intake information;
• Assisting in supervising the playroom volunteers;
• Assisting in straightening up the playroom at the end of every day;
• Assisting in Centers’ administrative office duties including report preparation, NCA trak data input, processing payment requests;
• Scheduling and coordinating internal and external meetings;
• Other program related duties as necessary
Additional Qualifications:
HS diploma/GED required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required. Bilingual in English and Spanish required. Candidates must consent to a criminal background check and a check of the State Central Registry.
