Description:

UTEC's mission is to be a "by teens, for teens" safe-haven for youth development and grassroots organizing. UTEC provides a safe and multicultural place of belonging emphasizing the holistic development of Lowell's young people, ages 13-23, particularly those most often overlooked and labeled as "at-risk." UTEC reaches out to these young people through intensive street outreach, builds upon their unique strengths within a youth development framework, and creates opportunities to best support them in becoming agents of social change and organizers in the community.

What: Art Instructor (part-time, 4 hours per week)
Where: UTEC, located @ 34 Hurd St. Lowell, Ma
When: As soon as possible!

Specific Responsibilities:
• Promoting UTEC and all the programs it offers.
• Model UTEC developmental assets (self confidence, interpersonal skills, life skills, healthier life choices, sense of belonging, giving back)
• Ensuring that expectations of the center are being met.
• Working closely with their supervisor and Director of Operation.
• Role model to teens at UTEC and community members
• Follow other responsibilities assigned by their individual departments
• Other duties may arise depending upon the situation.

Qualifications:
Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environment; flexibility to work hours as program needs change; ability to provide own transportation; bi-lingual/bi-cultural; ability to working with young people; strong leadership, organizing & facilitation skills; strong comfort level in approaching teens in various different situations.
