Description:

The Booker T. Washington Beacon is seeking professional, creative, and energetic people to be Student Advocates in a community based organization. We work with a diverse group of families providing educational, recreational, and cultural activities.

STUDENT ADVOCATE Positions-Immediate Hire
Staff needed to work with students 11-13 years old.

DUTIES:
*Responsible for a caseload of 20 students.
*Provide academic counseling, tutoring, and referrals.
*Data Entry
*Keep accurate case notes and documentation.
*Collects progress notes, test scores, report cards and other school information.
*Weekly case management meetings to design strategies to support academic and social concerns.
*Develop individual strategies for academic improvement, including prep and high school admissions.
*Serves as a liaison between Beacon programs, schoolteachers, families, and counselors.
*Advocates will make home and school visits when necessary.

Additional Qualifications:

*Must have their BA or Masters
*Aware of Department of Education testing and application schedules, deadlines, and requirements.
*Experience working with middle school population.
*Flexibility a MUST!
*Must be energetic, creative, engaging, and enjoy working with young people.
*At least two (2) years of experience working with youth of diverse backgrounds and in group settings.
*Develop and maintain a safe and respectful environment for all young people.
*Open Minded
*Excellent writing and oral skills.
*Computer skills in Microsoft Word/ Excel, Power Point, and Print Shop.
*Experience working in community centers and/or community based organizations a plus.
*Bi-lingual English/ Spanish/ French a plus.
*Special skills enhancing reading, writing, and math skills a plus.
*Experience in designing curriculum and facilitating development.
